I donated my services to Reno Nazarene Church in order to make their website. They already had an old website, but had just released a new TV commercial and wanted a site that matched their new marketing image. I used the graphics from their marketing company and built a look for the website based on their new logo.
There were several problems that they had with their old site. The first of which was that they had no easy way of keeping it updated, and the web design company that had created the site had gone out of business. I solved this by installing my easy update software. With this software they are able to update the site themselves. I also tied their home page into google calender so that they don't have to update the site every single week.
The next problem they presented to me was that they had poor search engine results with searches relating to church. With this in mind I focused on using the word "church" on every page, in titles and even changed their domain name to renonazarenechurch.com. I then proceeded to list them in every church related directory on the web and with each listing, added a link to their site. Within weeks they started appearing in local searches.
Reno Nazarene Church was also very frustrated that their material did not match up. They had a website with one set of colors, business cards with another and signs with yet another. So in addition to designing their website, I also created email and powerpoint templates for them. I made sure to keep with the image of their commercial as well.
In February of 2009 the owner of the Mr. Pickle's Sandwich Shop on Mill Street approached me to create a website for him. His shop was already listed on the franchises website, but the information was out of date and there was no way to edit the site.
I styled the website from menus and advertising material they already had, as well as their building. I used Mr. Pickle's existing logo.
The owner wanted to keep the website up to date with service hours and menu. I included my rich text editor and CMS (Content Management System). I also created a system that allowed them to edit their menu freely while keeping it in proper form and style.
In the middle of the project, the owner asked if I could add a newsletter to the website. I created the tools to send out a legal newsletter to a list of contacts and created a way for him to send out the letter and have it propagate to an RSS feed as well as the home page. I made sure that if there was no recent news, the link on the home page would not show up.
Bubble Burster is a fun and casual game for the iPhone and iPod Touch. While not all apps on the App Store have a website, most of the good ones do. The developer wanted a website that would interest potential customers and provide support and updates for current ones.
I started by creating a enticing home page with a quick description of what the game was. I placed an image of the game tilted sideways to describe visually that it was for the iPhone and iPod Touch and that to play, you tilt your device so the arrow is pointed up. I also included an "Available on the App Store" link right at the top of the page. I added a screenshots page that shows off the app.
I also added a contact page and a blog to allow current users to keep in contact with the developer. The blog automatically updates the Bubble Burster Twitter feed whenever the developer adds a post. It also has a comments section so the users can respond to individual subjects.
